Overview:
ABI Civil Contracting were engaged by the SNC-Lavalin/WBHO Joint Venture to construct the access roads required to service the wind turbines for the Stockyard Hill windfarm and to excavate 20 turbine foundations in rock and clay material. The windfarm is currently the largest within Australia.
Scope:
  • Construction of internal access roads totalling 32 kilometres
  • Construction of hardstand areas and open drainage
  • Placement on site of all surplus excavated materials
  • Installation of drainage culverts
  • Rock excavation of turbine foundations ranging from 1000 to 1450 cubic metres
  • Topsoil re-spreading and seed at completion of the earthworks
Core Outcomes:
  • The project was delivered such that the Joint Venture were able to maintain foundation construction and logistical targets
  • The project has established ABI Civil Contracting as a capable and reputable earthworks contractor
  • Communication across a wide site needs to be considered and planned for to reduce downtime
  • Clear expectations of both ABI Civil Contracting and the client need to be established early
